It has been over 20 years since Dr Graham Hughes reported in the British Medical Journal that he had identified a syndrome that resulted in the blood becoming sticky, producing an array of symptoms that include; severe headache and migraine, stroke, heart attack, deep vein thrombosis (including economy class syndrome) pulmonary embolis, repeated miscarriage, late term foetal death, pre-eclampsia, memory loss, visual disturbances, seizures and multiple sclerosis-type symptoms to name just a few!

This is not only an incredible medical breakthrough, but recognition and understanding of this condition will save and improve the lives of countless thousands of people.
Surely knowledge of this syndrome should be common knowledge among both the medical profession and public alike? |
Yet, knowledge and awareness of this common condition is sadly lacking, not only in South Africa, but worldwide. This is a situation that needs to be addressed as quickly and as effectively as possible. Following in the footsteps of the UK and the USA, it was felt that a foundation with achievable aims would be the best way forward.
