Although there is no cure for APS, the outlook for patients is dramatically better than in the past. Diagnosis and treatment is relatively straightforward. Correct treatment can prevent further clotting problems. The complaints many patients with APS have suffered with, perhaps for years, are often dramatically improved once on the correct treatment.
The discovery of APS has dramatically improved the live birth rate in young women with APS who have had recurrent early or late miscarriage.
Sadly, many people“s first meeting with APS is when they suffer a life-threatening medical event, such as a lung clot ("pulmonary embolism") or a stroke or heart attack. We are confident, as the condition becomes more widely recognized that many more lives will be saved as these individuals are diagnosed, treated and protected from the future development of these serious medical problems.
However, some people will have repeated blood clots despite the best of treatment. Research is helping reduce the number of people who continue to have these problems.
